Weir played well in 2004 season. He began with a 24th place finish at the tournament of champions, the Mercedes Championships. He continued the season with a poor performance at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, but followed this tournament up with consecutive top 10's at both, The FBR Open, and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The week after Pebble Beach was the Nissan Open. He played extremely well all week and finished on Sunday with a victory. He was the first player to successfully defend his Nissan Open title in the last nine years. In April, Mike had the opportunity to defend his 2003 Masters Championship. Unfortunately, he struggled in his first round and failed to make the cut. The second major of the year proved more successful for Weir. He played well all week, finishing in a solid tie for fourth at the U.S. Open. Several weeks later, Weir played in the British Open. He played consistently well all week, earning another top ten with a tie for 9th. His next tournament was the final major of the year. At the PGA Championship, Weir shot two rounds of 73 to miss the cut by one stroke. Then came Weir's national championship: The Bell Canadian Open. He played well, leading most of the weekend, but unfortunately lost in a playoff to Vijay Singh. Weir closed the season out well at the Tour Championship, where he had won before. He played solid all week, finishing in a tie for 4th.
