Weirs's 1998 season was not a very strong season for him. He finished in the top 20 a total of 3 times. At the Freeport-McDermott Classic, Weir finished tied for 19th with a very strong final round of 68. Much later in the season Weir had a great performance on home soil at the Greater Vancouver Open. There he finished in the top 10 with a tie for 5th. Then again in Canada he finished in the top 10 with a tie for 7th at the B.C. Open. In November, Weir was just trying to earn his way onto the PGA tour for 1999. He did so in style. He won the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament to qualify him for 1999. 1999 ended up becoming a turning point in Weir's PGA career.
